COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In Jackson, the Our Jackson Home journal marked 10 years by hosting a temporary art exhibit that shared local residents' stories of what makes the city feel like home. The spring edition was sponsored by United Way of West Tennessee and is on display at Havner’s Frame Shop until the end of March (offering a look back at a decade of community life).  WBBJ-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Medina man was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor—he was arrested after a December tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led investigators to electronic devices linked to child sexual abuse material and unlawful photography.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washington Douglass Head Start welcomed its only living original faculty member—101-year-old Margaret Savage—on Thursday when she read for Read Across America Day after the event was rescheduled to meet her needs. She taught from 1952 until 1992 and marks a special milestone in the local education community.  WYN 106.9
  • The Jackson Madison County Library is hosting a computer class on March 26 from 11 a.m. to noon. Additional classes are scheduled for April 9, April 23, May 14, and May 28—call 7314258600 for more details.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Madison County Highway Committee met Thursday at the county complex to review the road list for 2025 and 2026 and made minor changes such as adding Baker Drive and correcting the Fiberglass Road description. The county is also finishing a nearly $8 million paving project by May or June and replacing about 47 culverts with grant funds—residents can expect one or two road closures at a time.  WYN 106.9
  • The City of Jackson’s Purchasing Department will host its second annual Vendor Expo on Wednesday, March 26, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. The free event will connect vendors—contractors and businesses with city department representatives.  WYN 106.9

SPORTS NEWS

  • University School of Jackson sophomore Haylen Ayers won the Tennessee girls basketball Gatorade Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season—she averaged 23 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists as she helped her team reach the state tournament and now holds over 30 college offers.  The Jackson Sun
  • The Westview lady Chargers beat East Magnet to advance into the state tournament semifinals—coach Zach Jones praised the players' focus during the game.  WYN 106.9
