COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Love Your Block—Jackson is now accepting interest forms from residents with incomes at or below 80% AMI to apply for small exterior home repairs. Submitting a form does not guarantee selection as city officials will assess needs and available funding until capacity is reached.  WYN 106.9

CRIME NEWS

  • A Jackson man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for a January 7 shooting at the intersection of Gillman and Campbell Street and was sentenced to 30 years in prison—surveillance video linked him to the fatal shooting of Tyrese Jamall Hardin.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kids in Jackson are in a spring break performance camp at The Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center that started on Monday and will conclude with a grand finale performance today at 6 p.m. They will perform three fairy tales including Rumpelstiltskin, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs in a pay what you can event—supporting local talent.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • Life & Health Network is offering Diabetes Undone, a research-tested program aimed at reversing Type 2 diabetes at the Jackson Seventh-day Adventist Church beginning March 24th with classes held Mondays and Thursdays from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. An information session was held on March 17th to register for the course that costs $35 and includes a digital workbook and cookbook (located at 1902 Campbell St at the corner with Ridgecrest).  WBBJ TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Thursday's TSSAA boys basketball quarterfinals in Class 3A and 4A at Murphy Center and Wednesday's Class 1A and 2A games produced key wins that have set the stage for today's semifinals at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:45 p.m., and 2:15 p.m.—teams will then advance to Saturday's championships.  The Jackson Sun
