- ➤ Stamp Out Hunger will return on May 10 — residents can leave non-perishable food by their mailbox — and donations in West Tennessee will benefit RIFA. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Bonnie Christine Lee Banks, known as Christine, passed away peacefully at her Jackson home on April 15 at 87—she spent 16 years as a school bus driver and dedicated her life to her family. A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with burial at Lesters Chapel Cemetery, and the family asks guests to wear bright pink in her honor. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The free two-day Vintage Makers Music and Arts Festival will return to downtown Jackson on April 26th and 27th — a celebration of art, music and community. The event will feature over 60 vendors at the West Tennessee Farmers’ Market and live performances on Saturday’s main stage with acoustic acts on Sunday. WYN 106.9
- ➤ The Carnegie Center for Arts and History will offer a free Watercolor Mixing & Methods class on May 3 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 305 East College Street for participants age 12 and up to learn the basics of color theory and watercolor pigments. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Mitzi Privitt and Danny Wade joined our show to share details on the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival — an event that will be held later in 2025. WBBJ-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, Governor Bill Lee approved the state budget that included a $10 million grant for Jackson Regional Airport. The grant will fund two new corporate hangars and a T-hangar for general aviation—projects that aim to boost air service and business travel in our region. WYN 106.9
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Leaders Education Foundation opened its Workforce Readiness Scholarship applications yesterday for students pursuing industry certifications or attending local community or technical colleges—students may receive up to $1,000 for testing fees, books, supplies, or tuition; applications will close April 30. - ➤ Tennessee native astronaut Barry Wilmore was honored by the General Assembly on April 16 for presenting a state flag that flew during his nine‐month space mission. He returned in March after spending 286 days on the International Space Station—part of a Boeing Starliner test flight delayed by technical issues—and state lawmakers recognized his perseverance. - ➤ Starting May 7, a REAL ID or federally approved ID will be required for boarding domestic flights and entering certain federal facilities. Tennessee residents can obtain a REAL ID without an appointment—if they bring original documents like proof of citizenship, Social Security number and two proofs of residency, they may face long wait times.
