Jackson's downtown has grown steadily with about 20 new businesses a year, over $500,000 in facade improvement grants, and $7.2 million in economic activity from public art—Downtown Development Director Beth Ann Simpson detailed plans to support small businesses and expand restaurant spaces as investments continue. This growth shows public and private leaders are working together to boost downtown activity.

On Thursday at 3:28 p.m., the Jackson Police Department responded to a road rage call near Carriage House on 45 Bypass when a man said a suspect pointed a handgun at him; officers stopped the vehicle on Old Hickory Blvd—where a shot was fired, the officer discharged their weapon, and the suspect was airlifted to a Memphis hospital in critical condition while the officer has been placed on administrative leave as the TBI begins its investigation.

The Love Your Block program in Jackson is asking for volunteers to help homeowners with small repairs—landscaping, pressure washing and painting—during volunteer days on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 before noon. Volunteers must email the program with their group size, and all supplies will be provided.
