The Madison County Parks and Recreation Board confirmed Tuesday that splash pad construction at Pugh Born Park has started and Tally Park is nearly complete, pending a final inspection—set to open soon.
Officials said more details on the pad will be shared as work continues.
Jackson’s 13th annual cleanup is coming soon, where residents can help clean up their neighborhoods, remove bulky items, and securely shred unwanted documents (improving curb appeal).
City environmental specialist Shantell Hoefling said the event offers extra decluttering options before the holidays.
Dream Center of Jackson received a $10,000 technology grant from Toyota Tennessee to upgrade its computer lab with new laptops, printers and software, plus 40 clear backpacks to support schoolchildren.
The funding is expected to boost digital skills and job readiness among the center’s residents.
The West Tennessee Area Council of Scouting America will host its 2026 Swing Fore Scouting Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept.
21 at the renovated Jackson Golf and Country Club to support local youth programs; registration begins at 11:15 a.m. with a noon shotgun start.

Augustine School in Jackson started its 2025‑26 school year in a newly renovated building with fresh paint, new flooring, security‑enhanced windows and a chicken coop for Lower School classes (it serves about 210 students).
A ribbon‑cutting ceremony held on Aug. 6 marked the upgrades.
High school seniors can explore more college options with TN Direct Admissions underway for the Class of 2027.
Eligible students who complete the TN Promise application by Aug. 17 will receive their first admission letter in September and more letters throughout fall (final deadline Nov. 2).
On Monday, Aug. 10, the school board reviewed Pope School's nearly completed construction, which saved $2.4 million, and discussed using the extra funds for a new sign (to improve visibility) and athletic fields on campus.
Contractor Henson will present options for the sign that meet City guidelines.

Dr. Jay Phipps was named the 2026 Tom C.
Sharp Pharmacist of the Year by the Tennessee Pharmacists Association today. The pharmacist, who founded Phipps Pharmacy with a location in Jackson, is honored for his public health + education contributions.
