COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nonprofit organizations in 20 West Tennessee counties can now apply for the 100 Women Who Care awards scheduled for March, announced by the Community Foundation of West Tennessee. Last year, RIFA + All Saints Immigration Services shared $17,000 to support their work.  WNBJ 39

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Last Friday around 5 p.m., the Jackson Fire Department rescued two trapped individuals from a house fire on Hays Avenue using its new Project ESCAPE (Every Second Counts, Accountability, Proficiency, and Efficiency), which coordinated occupant action, 911 dispatch, and rapid firefighter response.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Matthew R. Bice was appointed as the new dean of UT Martin’s College of Education, Health and Behavioral Sciences after longtime dean Cindy West retired at the end of 2025. His official start date will be announced later — he brings experience from Baker University and the University of Nebraska Kearney.  WYN 106.9
  • Lane College announced that Jeremy Patterson (an alumnus) will serve as Director of Athletics effective Feb. 1. He previously led improvements at Rust College and will bring proven leadership to support the athletics program in Jackson.  WBBJ-TV
  • Jackson State Community College (JSCC) president Dr. Carol A. Rothstein and Athletic Director Dr. Kevin K. Lynum were honored with Diamond Awards in Atlanta on Saturday, Jan. 3 for their leadership in higher education and athletics. The awards recognized their service and dedication to community advancement.  WYN 106.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jackson Energy Authority warned customers that emails claiming to be from EPlus Broadband asking them to secure their account are not legitimate and advised against clicking links or sharing personal information.  WNBJ 39
  • The Gibson County EMS Public Safety Committee will meet Thursday, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. in Trenton to discuss improved ambulance coverage, and Medina Mayor Scottie Betts is urging residents to attend so the plan can reduce response times for Medina & southern Gibson County.  WNBJ 39

  • Tuesday night hoops saw the Mckenzie lady Rebels beat West Carroll + local fans cheered the win during the game in Jackson.  WYN 106.9
  • High school basketball games ended with final scores released 23 hours ago & local fans look forward to more action as the season stays active. Bahakel Sports posted the updates online.  WYN 106.9
