COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Jackson Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority celebrated 113 years today at New St. Luke Activity Center with a luncheon (featuring keynote speaker Victoria Christopher Murray) that honored the 22 founding women and highlighted continued community service and educational efforts.  WYN 106.9
  • Shiloh National Military Park is calling for volunteers to remove wreaths from the cemetery after the Wreaths Across America ceremony. The event will take place Saturday, Jan. 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh National Cemetery — participants are encouraged to bring gloves.  WBBJ-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers at Cypress Grove Nature Park are removing privet, an invasive plant used ornamentally, to keep the ecosystem healthy. They pull the plants by hand and remove all roots + ensuring the species does not regrow.  WBBJ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State edge rusher Chaz Coleman will transfer to Tennessee football, giving coach Jim Knowles the player he nicknamed (Chazmanian Devil). He replaces Jordan Ross, who transferred to LSU.  The Jackson Sun
  • Five Iron Golf in Jackson offers indoor golf practice and fun for all skill levels with lessons, club fittings, and over 200 simulated courses available daily. The venue hosts weekday happy hour (3-6 p.m.) and will launch indoor leagues on Monday, Feb. 9.  The Jackson Sun
  • The Tennessee Sports Writers Association released its all-state boys and girls cross-country teams for the 2025 TSSAA season early today at 12:01 a.m. Teams honor athletes from 8th grade to high school seniors in various classes across the state.  The Jackson Sun
