  • After Winter Storm Fern and before Storm Gianna, AAA urged Tennessee homeowners to watch for ice dams on roofs that can cause water damage and to call a licensed contractor instead of clearing ice themselves.  WBBJ-TV

  • Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store in Jackson is offering a 20% discount on lunch and dinner buffets for emergency crews (City, TDOT, and Jackson Energy Authority) from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 as thanks for storm recovery, following a one-day 50% special on Jan. 29.  The Jackson Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kelli Hytinen, a high school art teacher at Madison Academic in Jackson, was named Educator of the Week by the Tennessee Education Lottery. She has taught for 13 years and uses constructive criticism to help students improve their art.  WBBJ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City crews and local contractors began clearing icy roads on Friday night along Highland and North Parkway as winter weather response efforts continue. Mayor Conger apologized for the disruptions and said crews are working to restore safe travel conditions.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Madison County Fire Department has been awarded over $56K from the 2026 Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant to purchase new protective gear including turnout gear, helmets, gloves + boots to improve firefighter safety and readiness in serving the community.  WNBJ 39
  • The state emergency operations center remains activated at Level 3 as crews work to clear debris and restore power from Winter Storm Fern. Governor Bill Lee requested an expedited Major Disaster Declaration for 23 counties to speed federal aid.  WBBJ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lady Vols basketball will play its road game against Ole Miss on Feb. 17 on ESPNU after being postponed from Jan. 26 due to icy conditions in Oxford (Mississippi). The team will face Missouri, Texas, and Texas A&M over eight days.  The Jackson Sun
