COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Madison County Parks and Recreation Department reported that the Young Park equestrian center collapsed under heavy ice and sleet today (with no injuries), and recovery efforts are set to rebuild the structure bigger and better.  WNBJ 39

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Doe's Eat Place closed permanently on Facebook this past weekend in Jackson, ending decades of shared meals at the old Greyhound Station on E. Main Street where it opened in 1941. Inquiries about gift cards are directed via a direct message to its account.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center will produce 'Look Forward: The Ruby Bridges Story' from Feb. 12 to Feb. 15 at 314 East Main Street in Jackson (special school performances occur on Feb. 11 and 13). Tickets are available via the official ticketing portal.  WNBJ 39
  • Nick Darnell, famed for his role as the Grinch, will host a meet & greet and open auditions for the Model & Talent Expo at The Ned McWherter West TN Cultural Arts Center on Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. The event will offer talent a chance to learn industry tips.  WBBJ-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Icy roads and empty shelves continue to slow local travel and shopping about a week after the winter storm hit West Tennessee. Some residents noted scarce parking and slow grocery restocks, but the sun is out and warmer temperatures are on the horizon.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TEMA reported 23 weather-related deaths and more than 35,400 power outages following Winter Storm Fern, prompting Gov. Bill Lee to request an expedited disaster declaration for 23 counties. Utility crews are working around the clock to restore power statewide.  WBBJ-TV
  • Officials with the City of Jackson and Waste Management are updating trash pickup schedules as crews recover from recent weather; they remind residents not to overfill garbage cans + ensure they are accessible while routes are evaluated daily.  WNBJ 39
  • All Jackson City Parks are closed until further notice after a winter storm prompted safety checks on recreational areas and playground equipment. Community Center Programming is also paused (updates are expected soon).  WBBJ-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lifeline Blood Services in Jackson has asked local Type O Negative donors to help replenish blood supplies after the winter storm decreased donations and forced hospitals to restrict use. The center offers a chance to win a $250 Visa gift card until February 7.  WBBJ TV
