- ➤ The city sheltered over 60 people during a winter storm with help from 68 volunteers+20 local groups donating meals. Jackson Police reported no winter-related fatalities as the city thanked the supportive community. WNBJ 39
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, a fire destroyed Allied Hose and Belting in Jackson around 4 p.m.; owner David Oesch said the building is a total loss and all five staff escaped safely with minor injuries, and the business will now service customers from its 25,000 sqft plant (5444 US-70 Waverly). WNBJ 39

- ➤ Rusty's TV and Movie Car Museum is in the running for Best Pop Culture Museum on the USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards — putting Jackson on the national spotlight. Public voting runs until Feb. 9 at 12n EST, with winners announced Feb. 18. WBBJ-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials advise residents to report potholes by downloading the free Jackson TN connect app or visiting 3-1-1.jacksontn.gov — TDOT also offers an online form and hotline for repairs as the thaw increases road damage and motorists should drive carefully. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Following last month’s winter storm, Jackson Energy Authority said higher power usage will raise the next utility bill + customers needing help should call customer service. Bolivar Energy Authority has paused meter disconnections as crews work to restore power across the area. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ TDOT contract crews in Jackson installed a new signal at U.S. 412 and Old Bells Road that flashed caution on Monday, Jan. 19 and will be fully operational on Monday, Feb. 9. The project added an extra turning lane with grading, drainage and paving improvements. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Yesterday, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office and Highway Patrol held a press event with law enforcement partners to remind fans not to drink and drive ahead of Super Bowl weekend, citing 84 drink-driving crashes from last Super Bowl and promising increased roadside enforcement. WBBJ-TV

- ➤ Restaurant inspection scores reveal strong health ratings for establishments in West Tennessee. In Jackson, scores ranged from 96 to 100 on inspections conducted Feb. 4 — Feb. 6. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Women in West Tennessee gathered Friday at the Go Red for Women Breakfast to honor American Heart Month and learn to recognize heart attacks and strokes; Angela Crocker, chair of the event, urged healthy choices and regular doctor checkups (a reminder of the genetic risks). WNBJ 39
