- ➤ The Community Foundation of West Tennessee is accepting applications for its 2026-2027 Community Impact Grant cycle from nonprofit groups with tax-exempt status serving residents in 20 counties until March 31; funding decisions will be shared via email by June 1. WBBJ TV
- ➤ A recent study ranked Tennessee as the 5th most stressful state for drivers with 1,219 fatal crashes and frequent natural disasters. Jackson drivers share busy roads as local officials consider the findings (state stress index is 81.16 on a scale of 0 to 100). WBBJ TV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Raising Cane’s held a soft opening Monday evening in north Jackson and will officially open Tuesday at 1035 Vann drive. Company leaders and staff are eager (they have looked forward to serving the community). WBBJ TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Hope MacGregor will headline Hope’s House, an evening of storytelling and song at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. The event takes place on March 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. WNBJ 39
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Parent information sessions for Academic Academy at Northeast Middle were held on Feb. 9 and will continue on Feb. 17, Feb. 19, and Feb. 24 at the school cafeteria and library. Parents must submit applications online by March 6 (check the enrollment page for details). WBBJ-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marcus Wilson from the IT Department was named Employee of the Month for January, recognized for upgrading broadcast systems and overhauling server rooms to boost efficiency and support public safety projects. - ➤ Federal review of Individual Assistance is still underway after the winter storm while state agencies advise Jackson homeowners to document damage, file insurance claims promptly and save repair receipts. Residents are warned to avoid contractors demanding upfront fees — verify credentials with state agencies to ensure proper repairs. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance and the State Fire Marshal’s Office have added carbon monoxide detectors to the free Get Alarmed, Tennessee program to help residents prevent CO poisoning after Winter Storm Fern. - ➤ City officials began repairing potholes across four Jackson districts after a winter storm left large holes on roadways.
