COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Madison County Parks are repairing storm damage at Fred Young Park while beginning construction on Talley Park—a 53-acre facility donated by the Talley family in 2023. It will offer an accessible playground, pavilion, and parking and is set to open in Spring 2026.  WNBJ 39
  • RIFA celebrated its 50th anniversary with a community party yesterday in Jackson — guests enjoyed birthday treats, photo opportunities and festive surprises. The nonprofit, established in 1976, thanked local supporters for their continued involvement.  WBBJ-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Charles Phillips was selected as Gibson Electric’s President-Elect to succeed Dan Rodamaker (retiring on May 1) after 23 years of service. Phillips, who has worked with the cooperative since 1997, will lead a group serving over 40,000 local members.  WBBJ-TV
  • BBB President & CEO Randy Hutchinson advised local job seekers on Feb. 12 to be cautious after the BBB Scam Tracker reported many fake work-at-home offers that led to financial losses; the tips highlighted that offers without interviews or requiring upfront fees could be scams.  The Jackson Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Moviegoers in McKenzie can visit the Park Theatre this weekend to view Avatar: Fire & Ash. The movie runs from today through Sunday with screenings at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, while the ticket counter opens 30 minutes before each show.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Goodwill held its second graduation ceremony Thursday morning for its free Construction Training Program in Jackson, where graduates completed a four-week course with classroom learning + hands-on workshop training that earned OSHA certification and led to local job opportunities; the program is funded through store donations.  WBBJ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction work will cause lane closures in 21 counties from Feb. 11 to Feb. 18 as crews perform grading, drainage, and paving on key routes in Region 4 (closures may happen during day and night).  WBBJ-TV
  • The Madison County Sheriff's Office released a new mobile app to help residents get updates & report incidents, available on Google Play and the App Store. Director of Operations Jeff Wall said the tool also lets users search the inmate roster and access important resources.  WBBJ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jackson State Community College will host an elite flag football prospect showcase on Saturday, Apr. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on campus (featuring drills and athletic testing) to offer top high school and transfer prospects exposure to college coaches.  WBBJ-TV
  • The high school basketball playoffs begin in Jackson tomorrow, Feb. 14, as Division II-A boys and girls teams play at venues such as Lausanne and Jackson Christian, with later rounds scheduled through Feb. 21.  The Jackson Sun
