  • On President's Day, locals in Jackson enjoyed a long weekend with activities ranging from playing basketball at Muse Park to tackling errands like tax work, and residents made time for both recreation & practical chores under a sunny sky.  WNBJ 39
  • Regional Inter-Faith Action celebrated its 50th anniversary on Thursday, Feb. 12 in Jackson with community members enjoying 70s-themed gear and remarks from city officials.  The Jackson Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Braxton Gibson, a 16-year-old from Crockett County, auditioned for American Idol after advancing through initial rounds; he traveled to Nashville last fall to perform 'Who’s Loving You' in front of judges — Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie — who advised him to reaudition when he is older.  WBBJ-TV
  • Our Jackson Home and the City of Jackson invite West Tennessee-based artists to apply for a sidewalk installation near the Carnegie Center for Arts and History or alleyway murals off Liberty Street. Applications close March 6 — installations will take place in late spring and during the Plant Sale May 1-2.  WBBJ-TV
  • Crystal’s Zen & Juice will host Pressed and Poetic at 580 South Royal on Feb. 21 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., featuring live music & spoken word by local talent. The free event is supported by the city & Neighborhood Improvement Project Grant and RSVP is required.  WNBJ 39

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tennessee Severe Weather Awareness Week is ongoing as local Jackson residents review advice from past tornado experiences while nearby Memphis and Nashville stations offer guidance on preparing for storms. Residents are urged to stay informed, stock supplies, and use radio for updates—helping everyone take safety precautions this season.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • National Weather Service is offering storm spotter training classes to improve warning accuracy for severe weather. One in-person session is scheduled on March 5 at the Baptist Memorial Health Care Academic Building at Dyersburg State’s Covington campus (Tipton County) while additional courses will be available virtually and in other locations.  WBBJ-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • West Tennessee Healthcare debuted a newly recorded Brahms Lullaby performed by the Jackson Symphony to be played each time a baby is born at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The version replaces the old public-domain recording and will play over 3,400 times a year to strengthen local healthcare and partnerships.  WBBJ-TV
  • The American Heart Association is hosting the 'Go Red for Women' event at the Carl Perkins Civic Center (400 S Highland Ave) on March 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to raise awareness about heart disease among local women.  WNBJ 39

  • Jackson-area high school basketball playoffs are underway as TSSAA district tournaments continue. Today, the boys' games feature Gibson County vs Union City at Westview & Dresden vs Greenfield at Bethel University, and girls' contests will follow later this week.  The Jackson Sun
