  • Local leaders have rebranded the Jackson-Madison African American Chamber as the Legacy Chamber of West TN — unveiling a new logo to represent continuity and progress. The change highlights a commitment to an inclusive and forward-thinking community.  WNBJ 39

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2026 Kirkland Discovery Awards Gala will take place on Mar. 21 at Discovery Park of America in Union City. The event will honor local leaders Mike Cox, Allison DeMarcus, and Lee Marshall and be hosted by Matt Marshall of United Way with dinner by Artisan Kitchen + music from The Jackson Symphony.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jackson State Community College President Dr. Carol Rothstein was named 2025 Woman of the Year at the Rotary Club ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 18 in Jackson. Her award recognized her longstanding commitment to educational excellence.  The Jackson Sun
  • tnAchieves expands its statewide mentoring program — pairing college students with industry experts to boost career readiness. The nonprofit is matching 1,356 students with 1,088 mentors to strengthen job shadowing, resume building and interview skills across Tennessee.  WBBJ-TV
  • Jackson Museum School will move into the old YMCA building at 1515 Campbell Street as its first charter location in town. Officials say the project will soon change the facility into a center for community education.  The Jackson Post
  • The Department of Education is telling families in Jackson about the Education Freedom Scholarship as renewal applications are complete and new applicant decisions will be released weekly. Officials said applications grew nearly 32 percent in the program’s second year (an increase in interest).  WNBJ 39

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • February is Earthquake Awareness Month and the New Madrid fault below our region produces small tremors nearly every other day—experts warn a major quake could cause billions in damage. Residents can join the Great ShakeOut drill at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 to practice preparedness.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said statewide trapping for fox, mink, muskrat, otter, least weasel & bobcat and small game hunting for rabbit, grouse & quail will close on Feb. 28 while squirrel, raccoon and opossum seasons continue until March 15.  WBBJ-TV
  • Tennessee’s severe weather season will begin in March with risks of tornadoes, hail and damaging winds plus residents are urged to update emergency plans and check alert systems to stay safe as conditions change.  The Jackson Sun

  • Freshman Hollynn Carney at Pleasant View Christian shared the influence of her great aunt, former Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt, on her academic and athletic goals. She said the legendary coach's legacy inspires her on and off the court.  The Jackson Sun
  • Sophomore guard Bishop Boswell is stepping up as the team's leader as Tennessee basketball has won 9-11 of its recent games and faces Missouri at Mizzou Arena tonight at 9 p.m. ET.  The Jackson Sun
  • The JCM Cougars battled back to defeat Adamsville and secure the District Championship (game ended 12 minutes ago) in a high-stakes contest.  WBBJ-TV
