  • Both long-standing Jackson Plaza signs were removed Friday from North Highland Avenue — a farewell to an iconic landmark as residents wonder about future plans for the site.  WNBJ 39

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Papa Johns said it will close 200 underperforming stores by the end of 2026 — some of its 74 locations in Tennessee may be affected. The chain aims to streamline operations while details on individual closures remain undisclosed.  The Jackson Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jackson Parks and Recreation is hosting the Age of Elegance 50 and Up Talent Showcase on Friday, March 6 at the Ned McWherter Center downtown. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the show starting at 6 p.m. and admission is free.  WBBJ TV
  • Jackson-Central Merry students from middle, high, and Early College schools held a centennial black history commemoration on Friday afternoon at their campus, performing music and art that energized families and staff and honored the community's heritage.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Hidden Leaders documentary, which shows local citizens making a difference behind the scenes, premiered last night at Turntable Coffee Counter. The film (funded by Love Your Block Program) is a joint project of Our Jackson Home and The Reel Collective.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jessica Austin, a math teacher at South Side Elementary School, was named Educator of the Week by the Tennessee Education Lottery — she has taught 15 years and credits her family legacy and the Hope Scholarship for fueling her passion for teaching.  WBBJ-TV
  • Jackson-Madison County Library Board moved 37 young adult books to the adult section on Feb. 25, instituting parental approval forms for teen access. Library Director Dinah Harris warned that this move could lead to a slippery slope in censorship.  The Jackson Sun

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents will see a rare total lunar eclipse (blood moon) on March 3 when the eclipse begins at 2:44 a.m. in Nashville and lasts until 6:02 a.m., offering a unique five-hour view of the red-hued moon rising over clear skies.  The Jackson Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • Walmart's Great Value cottage cheese sold between Feb. 17 and Feb. 20 is under recall because it might not have been fully pasteurized (posing a risk for children, pregnant women, and the elderly). Customers are advised to return any affected product to their store for a refund.  WYN 106.9
  • Between February 23 and February 27, restaurant inspections in West Tennessee showed Jackson eateries earned scores ranging from 76 to 100, with several—including USJ Lower School Campus—securing perfect marks (indicating strong health standards).  WBBJ-TV

  • Mortgage rates drop below 6 percent for the first time since 2022, with the 30-year fixed rate at 5.98 percent. Jackson Realtor Bailey Bell believes this dip ahead of spring will spur buyer interest and create a more stable local market.  WNBJ 39
