CULTURE NEWS

  • Jackson seniors will perform at the free Age of Elegance talent showcase in its fifth year, featuring local performers aged 50 and older, at The Ned on March 6 at 6 p.m.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Feb. 25 the Jackson-Madison County Library Board reviewed book reconsideration requests as director Dinah Harris proposed a parental permission policy for teens accessing adult-rated books and reclassified 37 titles—2 remain in young adult while one is removed. The board will update the policy on March 25.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is accepting applications for its 2026 scholarship program that offers $5,000 to 15 eligible high school and college students, including employees, pursuing careers as first responders. Applicants must enroll in an accredited emergency response program and apply by April 15 at 3 p.m. CT.  WBBJ-TV
  • Leadership Jackson's class of 2025 completed a service project that refreshed Alexander Elementary School, a legacy school built in 1949, by creating a flexible space for student learning and teacher instruction + a place to relax during the day.  WNBJ 39

FINANCE NEWS

  • IRS data shows higher refunds for Tennessee filers, with an average of $3,804 so far, marking a 10.2% increase as tax season moves toward the April 15 deadline. Refunds typically arrive within 21 days (if filed electronically) and taxpayers may file Form 4868 for a six-month extension if needed.  The Jackson Sun
  • Drivers in Tennessee pay an average of $657 a month for car loans, with some reaching up to $1,000, according to a Quartz report from Nov. 2025 — used car buyers often pay lower amounts as noted in a NerdWallet study.  The Jackson Sun

  • Jackson's Parks and Recreation department launched its new online registration system today. Residents must create a new profile on first login and can get help by phone or in person (support is available for a smooth transition).  WNBJ 39
  • Jackson City Council voted today to name a section of Hays Avenue (from East College to Lexington) after Dr. Melvin Wright, Sr. to honor his lifelong service as a dentist and community leader, with his family set to schedule the dedication ceremony.  WNBJ 39

  • North Side beat Dyersburg on Tuesday night to advance to the region championship. The win set up their next game as the team builds playoff momentum.  WBBJ-TV
