  • City of Jackson is inviting volunteers to join the Great American Cleanup 2026, a citywide effort with Keep America Beautiful that will run from March through June to clean up local neighborhoods.  WNBJ 39
  • The Better Business Bureau reported scam texts are rising in Jackson with messages about missed packages or bank alerts. Experts advise verifying texts by calling the organization with a trusted number (and not replying to unknown messages) to avoid sharing personal details.  WBBJ-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Jackson have edged up as the state average moves from $2.68 to $3 per gallon while national prices hit $3.48 amid seasonal changes and global tensions — local drivers are advised to use fuel rewards and carpool to cut costs.  WBBJ-TV
  • Gas prices in Tennessee rose 42 cents last week to an average of $3.03 per gallon — a level not seen since August 2024. Rising crude oil costs from the conflict in Iran drove the increase, and AAA warns that more hikes are coming.  WBBJ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jackson State Community College was named Community College of the Year at the TBR’s Outstanding Achievement Recognition Awards in Nashville on March 5 after record enrollment growth and expanded academic and athletic programs boosted its local standing.  WBBJ-TV

  • A new report from GOBankingRates finds that in Tennessee, $1 million in retirement savings will last about 18 years based on average annual expenses of $55,473 & low living costs. Retirees may need extra funds if they live beyond that duration.  The Jackson Sun

  • The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has opened a public comment period until April 2 for proposals on the 2026-27 hunting and trapping seasons. Officials will vote on the proposals in Knoxville on April 16-17 before the new rules take effect Aug. 1.  WBBJ TV

  • TSSAA Division I girls basketball state championships will run March 11–14 at MTSU’s Murphy Center in Murfreesboro. Fans can livestream games on the NFHS Network with a $79.99 subscription or watch on local channels like Jackson Energy Authority.  The Jackson Sun
