COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jackson Parks & Rec and Wellpoint will host a free Self Care Day this Saturday at T.R.White Sportsplex to offer local residents essential health tips and support.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Jackson Boxing Club reopened in a new location in Lincoln Heights on Thursday thanks to a partnership between the Jackson Equity Project and the Jackson Housing Authority—offering boxing lessons and homework help to local youth. The club, with over 50 years of history, now welcomes community members Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.  WNBJ 39

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 13th, 2025, Jackson Police arrested a man at a home on Greenfield Drive after he fled on foot while drawing a handgun and dropping it behind a house, and a search warrant at the apartment later turned up 23.7 grams of marijuana, a stolen key fob from a recovered Challenger, three firearms, and evidence of auto thefts and burglaries, with another person taken in for an active warrant.  WBBJ TV
  • A local gas station was robbed by thieves carrying snakes at a truck stop off Interstate 40 in Madison County — the suspects still at large after stealing nearly $400 in CBD oil as a cashier chased them briefly with a wet floor sign.  WYN 106.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Twelve high school students from 12 different schools were awarded college scholarships after completing a six-month leadership course at a special awards luncheon held Friday in Jackson—organizers plan to run the program again next year.  WYN 106.9
  • Arlington Elementary School in Jackson is marking Energy Awareness Day as students and staff work to reduce the utility bill from $10,000 last August to $6,674.87 while earning an 89 Energy Star rating+ every student will receive a four-pack of LED bulbs on Friday and the school qualifies for a $10,000 award while also vying for a chance to win $25,000.  WYN 106.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local governments in West Tennessee are opening storm shelters—operated in several counties—to offer residents a safe place as severe weather is expected this weekend. Electric departments are ready to restore power quickly if outages occur, with crews on standby and vehicles fully fueled.  WBBJ-TV

  • Westview lady Chargers advanced to the state championship with a win over Loretto 21 minutes ago — the team now focuses on preparing for the final game.  WYN 106.9
