  • A study by StorageCafe shows Tennessee added about 52,000 new residents in 2023, with Knox County attracting 8,800 newcomers—mostly Gen Z drawn by local job opportunities and lifestyle. The report ranks other counties like Rutherford, Hamilton, and Williamson by net move-ins.  The Jackson Sun

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hattie Mae’s Southern Style Kitchen will open soon in the historic Greyhound building downtown after its owner announced on social media that the restaurant will serve Southern dishes and drinks, though no opening date has been set.  WNBJ 39

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported (Mar. 16) that gas prices increased by 31 cents in the past week and 82 cents in the past month in Jackson and the surrounding region, with averages of $3.35 statewide and $3.41 in Madison County.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Ned's Spring Break Performing Arts Camp (ages 6 to 12) runs Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20 with daily sessions from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m. with a Disney’s Finding Nemo Kids performance.  WBBJ-TV
  • During spring break, the Jackson-Madison County Library hosts daily children’s programs including story times Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and a special Racecar Driving Day on Saturday (with car play areas), while libraries remain open on varying hours throughout the week.  WBBJ-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Snow flurries and freezing temperatures threaten gardens in West Tennessee as a cold snap continues. Nursery manager James Wick from Morris Nursery and Landscaping advises moving potted plants indoors and covering in-ground plants until temperatures rise later today and to delay planting summer flowers until after April 15.  WBBJ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Madison County Mayor AJ Massey proclaimed March 16 as Kayla Beaver Day during the monthly County Commission meeting to honor Southside High School graduate Kayla Beaver for her record-setting softball career and numerous awards. The proclamation celebrated her inspiring legacy for local athletes.  WBBJ-TV
  • Fewer Tennesseans filed 2025 returns, even as the average refund increased by 10% from last year, with lower filings as the April 15 deadline approaches. Taxpayers may file for a six-month extension & check the IRS website for refund updates.  The Jackson Sun
  • AAA is activating its Tow to Go program to help partygoers avoid impaired driving on St. Patrick’s Day — the free service offers a confidential tow and ride in Tennessee from Monday, Mar. 16, 6 p.m. to Wednesday, Mar. 18, 6 a.m.  WBBJ-TV
