CULTURE NEWS

  • Cosmic Getaways at the M.D. Anderson Planetarium at University of Memphis Lambuth will explore what happens when stars are ejected from galaxies on March 25 (with shows at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.). Admission will be free, but reservations are required.  WNBJ 39
  • Popular hip-hop artist Yung Gravy will perform at Rockabillys Stadium on July 26 with local artist DJ Von joining the stage as gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale this Friday—full event details will be announced later.  WNBJ 39

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cypress Grove Nature Park in Jackson closed again after recent flooding damaged the area near its boardwalk—repairs completed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. Local nature lovers hope the park reopens soon.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • This year marks the 20th anniversary of Sunshine Week, a national event that calls for open government and better public access to records. Organized with support from the Joseph L. Brechner Freedom of Information Project, the celebration is backed by local groups such as the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government (TCOG) and the Tennessee Press Association (TPA).  The Jackson Post
  • The City of Jackson is launching the My Travels Count survey to ask 19,000 randomly selected households in Madison County how they travel for work, errands, or school. The survey will be mailed starting March 27th and completed online with a code in the letter to help shape the long-range transportation plan for 2027.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • John Baker, MD, from West Tennessee Medical Group performed the first AGENT™ Drug-Coated Balloon procedure on March 18th at Jackson-Madison General Hospital to treat a coronary artery disease patient with in-stent restenosis. The FDA-approved device uses paclitaxel to help prevent the artery from narrowing again.  WYN 106.9
  • Residents in Jackson are advised by the Jackson-Madison County Health Department to keep food out of the danger zone—between 40°F and 140°F—to prevent bacteria growth. They should not leave food out for more than two hours and must use clean plates for cooked items to avoid cross contamination.  WYN 106.9
  • Kim Tedford will retire as Regional Director of the Jackson-Madison County Health Department on April 4 and Shanna Wilbanks has been named the new director. Wilbanks brings 22 years of public health experience (including work during the Covid-19 response) and will lead the department in protecting community health.  WBBJ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cougar fans gathered at Jackson Central Merry Field House to send off the JCM Boys Basketball team as they headed to state. The team will face Jackson County today at 8:45 p.m. at the Murphy Center to compete for the 2A state title.  WNBJ 39
