CRIME NEWS

  • Jackson police arrested six individuals after a shooting on North Highland Avenue on March 8 that injured two men and caused damage at Walgreens and Highland Express — four of the suspects appeared in court Wednesday morning facing charges including attempted second degree murder, reckless endangerment, and firearm offenses.  WYN 106.9
  • U.S. Marshals will arrest 69-year-old Walter Leonard Smalls from Grants Pass on May 18 at a residence in Wolf Creek after he failed to appear in Madison County court on drug charges linked to a 2023 traffic stop that uncovered large amounts of controlled substances.  WBBJ-TV
  • Three teens were convicted in a 2023 Jackson murder case after they broke into Sixto Maldonado-Perez's apartment on Old Hickory Boulevard to rob him, which led to a fatal struggle and shooting. Two teens were sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder and aggravated robbery while a third teen pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received 27 years.  WNBJ 39

  • The Army National Guard launched a new campaign called Uncommon is Calling — the effort highlights over 150 career paths and benefits like tuition assistance and home-buying support. Sergeant Claudia Napier said her service gave her a home and quality healthcare.  WBBJ-TV
