  • The Jackson Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce will host a Spring Business Mixer on March 27 at 5 p.m. at 3045 North Highland Avenue—reservations are required for the free event that offers a chance for local professionals to build valuable connections.  WNBJ 39

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, Tennessee's average gasoline price fell to $2.66 per gallon—a drop of 2.2 cents from last week and 51.2 cents lower than a year ago based on GasBuddy's survey of 3,821 stations. The state's price is 8.2 cents lower than last month's level while the national average now stands at $3.08 per gallon.  WYN 106.9

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologists have noted an increase in tornado activity in the Southeast with recent events in Tennessee leading experts to use the term Dixie Alley — even though Tennessee is not in the official Tornado Alley. Additional data shows that larger tornado paths and more nighttime storms are raising concerns in Southern states — sparking discussions on shifting weather patterns.  The Jackson Sun

  • Tina Prescott is nearing her six-month anniversary as CEO of West Tennessee Healthcare—she was named in September a few weeks after a personal loss that marked a turning point in the organization's history.  The Jackson Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • The USA TODAY Sports Network released its final statewide girls basketball rankings for the 2024-25 season after the TSSAA state tournament, basing points on team records, opponent strength (including postseason finishes) and overall performance. Heritage in Class 3A1 and The Webb School-Bell Buckle in Division II-A1 earned top marks, and several teams saw ranking changes following the season.  The Jackson Sun
  • Kentucky point guard Lamont Butler said his team will beat Tennessee in a Sweet 16 game on Friday at 7:39 p.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. He said a tough SEC schedule made the Wildcats strong — they have already beaten Tennessee twice this season.  The Jackson Sun
  • The Jackson area boys athlete of the week poll for March 17-22 is open for votes until Thursday at 5 p.m. after McNairy Central baseball's Tucker McMahan won last week with 4,866 votes - nominees include athletes from basketball, baseball and soccer who have posted strong performances.  The Jackson Sun
