COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On March 25th, 2025, West Tennessee Community Foundation celebrated 40 years since its charter was granted on March 25th, 1985 — its staff hosted events to mark the milestone.  The Jackson Post
  • The Jackson Elks Lodge #192 named Cathy Jarvis the 2024—2025 Citizen of the Year. She has volunteered for six years—serving meals and providing rides to help neighbors in Jackson.  WYN 106.9

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 26th, 2025 at 10:40 p.m., Jackson police responded to a Shotspotter alert on Lincoln Cir and saw a male suspect shooting before he fled into a nearby residence — a search later yielded firearms, ammunition, and marijuana with no injuries reported.  WBBJ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Jackson will host its First Friday event on April 4 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where live music — an art walk and family-friendly activities will be featured, with extra events planned for May 2 and June 6.  WNBJ 39
  • VSS Dance will host its Competition Dance Showcase on Saturday, April 5th at 6:00 p.m. at Clayton Hall, 200 S Church Street in Downtown Jackson, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.+ The free event will display the award-winning travel team's varied routines and offer families a chance to learn about the studio's programs+  WBBJ-TV

FINANCE NEWS

  • With Tax Day approaching on April 15, tax expert Lisa Greene-Lewis with Intuit Turbo Tax advises filers to gather necessary documents like W-2s, 1099s, and receipts so they can file early and speed up refunds — she also stressed that new tax proposals have not passed and IRS essential workers were not affected by recent layoffs. Filing soon will give taxpayers time to check for any errors before the deadline.  WBBJ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the second annual City of Jackson Vendor Expo gave local residents and businesses a chance to meet city agencies and learn how the city is managed—Purchasing Director Zach Polk said the free event is meant to help create easier connections for potential contracts while Parks and Rec's Community Engagement Director Whitney Billingsley encouraged visitors to ask how city services can benefit them.  WNBJ 39
  • Today, Jackson Fire Department launched a new website to offer residents, businesses and prospective firefighters resources on fire safety, department programs and community engagement. The website, part of a partnership with Jackson Fire and Rescue Community Safety project, supports the city's plan to modernize public services.  WBBJ-TV
  • Jackson Regional Airport was named Tennessee’s 2024 Airport of the Year by TDOT and the Tennessee Division of Aeronautics on March 25 during the Tennessee Airports Conference in Murfreesboro for its strong growth, safety improvements and nearly $33 million in investments. The honor underscores the airport’s role in boosting regional connectivity—support stemming from local and state leadership.  WYN 106.9
  • Jackson Mayor Conger sent an email on January 2nd telling Madison County and Jackson-Madison County Schools that the city will not fund offsite improvements + he explained a plan to provide the schools $120 million over 20 years.  The Jackson Post
