CULTURE NEWS

  • Local educator and author Barbara Fowler will host a book signing for her new memoir 'Telling the Bees' on Saturday, Apr. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon at Velvet Volumes inside the Turntable Coffee Counter at 300 East Main Street.  WNBJ 39
  • The Ned in Jackson will host 'The Odd Couple: Female Edition' from April 23 to 26, with a Preview Party kicking off on April 23 at 6:30 p.m. for $50 tickets that include open wine and beer bar, hors d'oeuvres and dessert at 314 East Main Street.  WNBJ 39

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Jackson dipped by one cent from last week to $3.69 per gallon but remain over a dollar higher than last month, according to AAA (state average is $3.63) amid ongoing tensions in Iran.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • JMCSS teams excelled at the Greenpower races on Saturday, March 28 during a school competition held outdoors with sunny weather & cool temperatures that gradually warmed as the event continued.  The Jackson Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TDOT has selected a partner to lead a smart freight corridor pilot along I-40 between Memphis and Blue Oval City. The multi-year project will test new technology to improve safety and reduce congestion as freight traffic grows.  WNBJ 39
  • Elected officials from Jackson and Madison County held a town hall at Greater New Bethel AME Church in East Jackson on March 23 to address community concerns over rising juvenile crime and mental health while updating residents on county audit findings, pothole repairs, and a proposed rehabilitation center.  The Jackson Sun
  • Madison County Fire Rescue urges residents to register their storm shelters before severe weather; the registration helps first responders locate them in case of storm damage (call 731-424-5577).  WNBJ 39
  • A new Tennessee tax deduction for overtime work is in effect for tax years 2025 through 2028 (it offers up to a $12,500 deduction only on the premium portion of overtime pay). Tax returns for 2025 are due Apr. 15.  The Jackson Sun
