- ➤ The Jackson Arts Council is hosting its Arts Backstage fundraiser on May 21 at The Ned R. McWherter Cultural Arts Center downtown, with live music, dance, theater, literary shows, visual arts, film, dinner & drinks to support local artists. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. WNBJ 39

- ➤ Gas prices in Jackson increased by five cents from Monday to reach $3.74 a gallon, compared to a nationwide average of $4.02 reported on Tuesday morning. Local prices have risen as oil prices have remained high. WNBJ 39

- ➤ Jackson State Community College hosted a mock disaster drill on campus Tuesday to train nursing students in emergency response — 30 students rotated through roles in an active shooter simulation featuring 15 mock casualties while working with local emergency agencies. WBBJ-TV
