  • Today, Jackson Police officers and a West Tennessee Healthcare nurse helped Unjarsai Kendall, who ran out of gas on North Parkway, by refueling his car and providing new shoes for his son (an act that brought the community together).  WNBJ 39

  • The Jackson AMP has released the lineup for the 2026 Delta Faucet Summer Concert Series, a free live-music event on most Friday nights this summer in Jackson + the concerts promise performances from local bands.  WBBJ TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gen Z job seekers in Jackson face challenges in a changing market as rising costs and new requirements affect high schoolers and recent graduates. Greater Jackson Chamber CEO Kyle Spurgeon said the city offers diverse career paths in manufacturing, healthcare, retail + tourism.  WBBJ TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State education officials will follow Tennessee's reading law as third graders take English language arts tests from Apr. 13 to Apr. 24, with scores released May 20 to decide if they need retesting, summer school, or tutoring (final retention decisions come by July).  The Jackson Sun
  • The M.D. Anderson Planetarium invites locals to a free show titled Cosmic Origins Spectrograph on Tuesday, April 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 299 Maple Street, where attendees learn how astronomers analyze starlight to uncover our cosmic origins (call 731-425-7368 for details).  WNBJ 39
  • Northeast Middle School mourned Coach Gayle Kendrick, who died suddenly after dedicating two years to mentoring students in sports and academics. The Jackson-Madison County School System is offering counseling services — supporting students and staff as they cope with his loss.  WBBJ-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency announced that the statewide turkey hunting season will begin on Saturday, Apr. 11 and run through Sunday, May 24, following the Young Sportsman Hunt on April 4-5. New regulations set harvest limits and legal equipment for hunters in all counties (excluding select public lands).  WBBJ-TV

  • The City of Jackson reminds residents to schedule bulk and yard waste pickups using the Jackson, TN – Connect App or 3-1-1 to ensure timely collection and a cleaner neighborhood; active residents with single family or two family units receive 12 free collections per year.  WBBJ-TV
