On Wednesday, the Jackson Rotary Club hosted Lori Nunnery—CEO of Visit Jackson—who spoke on tourism in Jackson and Madison County.

She explained that local efforts are focusing on family-friendly activities with a new Kids Campaign and visitor guide available online and at Visit Jackson offices.

Jackson's new pet pantry, Paws and Whiskers Pet Pantry, offers a wide array of pet foods and supplies designed for pets with allergies and food sensitivities—providing private shopping sessions for pet owners.

Owner Larissa Moyer, who studied K9 nutrition and now offers pet massage, said the store is at 180 West University Parkway, Suite A and has been serving the community since July 2024.

Philip Stephen Plyler, a former teacher in the Madison and Gibson County school systems, pleaded guilty to transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and will serve over 20 years in prison—followed by five years of probation.

The Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson will get new seating after the city council approved a construction contract for the upgrade.

The maintenance department began removing old seats on April 2—MSB Construction will install the new seating.

At its monthly meeting, the Jackson City Council approved a homeless shelter project and introduced a new e-mail platform for city employees — further details including the shelter's location and opening date were not provided.

Officers across Tennessee started Operation Hands-Free on April 1 to crack down on drivers who use their phones while driving.

The month-long campaign will enforce the state law against holding a cell phone and aims to reduce distracted driving that has led to many crashes.
