  • After severe storms caused flooding and tornadoes on April 2nd and 3rd, the Community Foundation of West Tennessee activated its Disaster Relief Fund to support affected residents—local agencies and government will work together to help communities recover.  WBBJ TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lights Up! Theatre Co. will present Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. on April 18 and 19 (at 200 South Church Street in Jackson), featuring familiar songs such as Part of Your World and Poor Unfortunate Souls and a story about finding your voice and following your dreams.  WNBJ 39

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • West Tennessee towns and communities are cleaning up after a severe tornado hit Wednesday night. Selmer—heavily damaged—led the recovery as residents in Hardeman County and crews in Grand Junction work to restore affected areas.  WNBJ 39
  • The National Weather Service says parts of West and Middle Tennessee will face severe storms with tornadoes and heavy rain—up to 15 inches in some areas—through the weekend. Gov. Bill Lee declared a state of emergency after two weather-related deaths and over 15,400 power outages were reported, with more heavy rain expected into Sunday.  The Jackson Sun

  • Shane Jacobs resigned as Peabody High School's football coach and assistant principal on Thursday after a ten-year run that saw him lead the team to three state championships and finish with a record of 102 wins and 29 losses. He will join University School of Jackson as Head of Upper School on July 1.  The Jackson Sun
