  • Animal Rescue Corps rescued eight pit bulls from an abandoned property in Jackson on April 9 after local law enforcement asked for help; the dogs are now receiving treatment and care at the ARC Rescue Center outside Nashville.  WBBJ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Jackson Choral Society will perform its spring concert 'All Nature Sings' on Saturday, Apr. 18 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church to offer a diverse mix of music celebrating nature.  WNBJ 39
  • Talented individuals competed at the 2nd annual Jackson's Got Talent contest hosted by the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Regions Bank at the Ned in downtown Jackson — eight contestants showcased their vocal skills for prizes including $2,000 and an interview with a talent agent — with all proceeds benefitting the center.  WBBJ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Union University trustees approved the construction of a new chapel on the eastern campus next to the current G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel (to be demolished after spring) and set the 2026-2027 operating budget, which includes faculty promotions, tenures, and a new data science degree program.  WBBJ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Highway Safety Office has launched Operation Hands Free to enforce the state's Hands Free law during Distracted Driving Awareness month. In Jackson, Sgt. Childers said local agencies reported seven fewer traffic deaths this year as they work to curb distracted driving.  WNBJ 39
