COMMUNITY NEWS

  • RIFA will partner with the USPS and the National Association of Letter Carriers for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday, May 10. Jackson letter carriers will collect sturdy bags of non-perishable food from mailboxes before delivery—these donations will help local food banks—while residents support efforts to feed neighbors in need.  WYN 106.9

CRIME NEWS

  • A Pennsylvania man, 33-year-old Nicholas 'Nick' Wayne Grimes, flew to Jackson on April 13th, 2024 to visit a friend and went missing when an unknown woman picked him up at the Jackson Regional Airport—his family has had no contact with him since and filed a missing persons report with the Pennsylvania State Police.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Memphis Tourism sponsors a live music event at Amp at the Market at 91 New Market St that will feature Memphis-born soul singer Marcus Scott on April 25 at 7:30 p.m., and local attendees will also learn about Memphis attractions + dining options through an on-site booth.  WBBJ-TV
  • Lights Up! Theatre Co. is set to hold auditions for 'Frozen Kids'—an abridged version of Frozen for young performers in Kindergarten through 5th. Auditions take place on May 2nd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with rehearsals from May 26 to June 18 and performances scheduled for June 19 to 21.  WBBJ TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Melissa Watkins, a 14-year teacher at Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School who also teaches dual enrollment courses at Bethel University, is recognized as Educator of the Week by the Tennessee Education Lottery. She uses hands-on labs to help students learn and build relationships (she credits her own favorite teacher, Michelle Leonard, for inspiring her) and is now eligible for the Educator of the Month award.  WYN 106.9

SPORTS NEWS

  • The United States Tennis Association is holding Level Five of its Spring Junior Tennis Tournaments in Jackson today; players (aged 12 to 14) will compete in singles and doubles events, and the tournament (runs through April 13).  WNBJ 39
