  • The American Job Center hosted a re-entry job and resource fair at Jackson State Community College to help those with criminal records access job opportunities, GED programs, vocational training, and free legal advice from the Justice Bus. Employers and housing groups were on site to assist job seekers.  WBBJ-TV
  • RIFA celebrated community volunteers at its annual appreciation event held at Baker Bros Barbeque downtown Tuesday (presented by Cadence Bank and Love and Truth Church), handing out awards in 14 categories to honor those fighting hunger.  WBBJ-TV

  • Red Lobster brought back its Endless Shrimp special on Monday, April 20 for a limited time. The dine-in offer costs $29.99 per person at 17 locations across Tennessee, including Jackson.  The Jackson Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • National Miss Volunteer America Pageant Week will run at the Carl Perkins Civic Center starting June 13 with registration on June 14, preliminaries from June 17 to 19, and the finals on Saturday, June 20. The pageant offers scholarships + requires tickets for all events.  WNBJ 39
  • Olivia Heimke, a 13-year-old from Collierville, won Jackson’s Got Talent today by singing 'Let Me Be Your Star' from SMASH the Musical. The contest is presented by Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center, which works to prevent child abuse & support local youth.  WBBJ-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Asian needle ants have been found in Tennessee and their venomous sting may cause serious reactions; experts report that foraging will peak July-September so residents should be cautious on local trails.  The Jackson Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senate Bill 2040, also known as the Fair RX Act, passed the Legislature and now heads to Governor Bill Lee’s desk. The law aims to break the grip of middlemen on local pharmacies & give patients more choices for filling prescriptions.  WBBJ-TV
