- ➤ The Jackson Exchange Club announced that more than 800 American flags will be displayed along the 45 Bypass this May — the public will join a Dedication Ceremony at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20 at 1730 Highway 45 Bypass to honor veterans, first responders and those affected by child abuse and neglect. - ➤ Beech Bluff Recreation Center will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5 at 6 p.m. at 4488 Beech Bluff Road where residents can enjoy bingo and a taco bar for $10—call 731-234-8833 for more details. WNBJ 39
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Chapell Dain Cissell (31) was sentenced on April 11 to 10 years in federal prison and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to six counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm following a case investigated by federal and local law enforcement in Dresden. WBBJ TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tennessee requires burn permits for yard debris burning until May 15 — a rule to prevent wildfires — and those who burn without a permit may face fines or jail time. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Animal shelters statewide can now apply for grant funding to support spay and neuter services using money from Animal Friendly—Spay and Neuter Saves Lives—license plates, and applications must be submitted by May 16. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture Animal Health Division will award funds based on service scope with priority given to shelters in distressed counties. WNBJ 39
