  • Helping Hands of Tennessee is hosting a free community event today at Shirlene Mercer Park — a Community Healthcare and Resource Fair starting at 11 a.m. offers free glasses, pet adoption, legal resources, food trucks, and live entertainment.  WNBJ 39
  • Local children celebrated the 4th annual Children's Day at City Hall, enjoying activities that showcased creativity and local talent. Ashley Akerson (executive director of Dreamers and Makers) presented a proclamation and highlighted the art exhibition featuring original works from local students.  WBBJ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lane College held a baccalaureate service for students just before graduation day with Senior Pastor Darrell L. Harrington of New Sardis Baptist Church as the keynote speaker. Following the service, the college hosted a reception for graduates and their parents, and its commencement ceremony will begin today at 10 a.m.  WBBJ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Marsha Blackburn visited the STAR Center this evening to tour the nonprofit (founded 1988) that helps people with disabilities access communication, education, employment, and independent living services.  WBBJ-TV
  • Jackson Transportation Authority celebrated the grand re-opening of its renovated Transfer Center today, offering passengers a comfortable waiting area (staff say the improvements help reduce exposure to extreme weather) and smoother service.  WNBJ 39

SPORTS NEWS

  • Union Men's Golf finished third in the GSC championship earlier today in a competitive round with top college teams – marking a strong result for the season.  WBBJ-TV
  • High school baseball and soccer scores (reported 15 minutes ago) show tight finishes in community contests. The results mark the season's competitive conclusion for local teams.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Jackson Rockabillys will open their baseball season on Tuesday, May 26 at their stadium at 4 Fun Place. Gates open at 6 p.m. with the first pitch at 7 p.m., and groups of 10 or more can access special ticket pricing.  WNBJ 39
