  • Jackson faces potential hail and strong winds as an approaching storm nears, and the Carl Perkins Civic Center now serves as a shelter for residents. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Leaders Education Foundation awarded over $30,000 in scholarships at its 7th annual meeting held at the J. Walter Barnes Conference Center at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and recognized 20 2026 collegiate recipients with awards ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.  WBBJ-TV
  • Martin native Harrison Simpson won the prestigious Derryberry Award at Tennessee Tech. He earned the honor for scholarship, leadership and citizenship as he pursues a master’s degree in cybersecurity and advises students to embrace opportunity.  WBBJ-TV
  • Tony Black, who spent over 30 years with the City of Jackson as Executive Director of Parks and Recs (and was an All-State basketball player), is set to lead athletics at Jackson-Madison County Schools for the 2026-2027 school year.  WBBJ-TV

  • Residents affected by Winter Storm Fern can register for FEMA assistance at the mobile office behind Henderson City Hall through Wednesday. Registrants will be given a follow-up appointment to learn more about available aid.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • As warmer weather brings increased snake bite risks for pets, Jackson pet owners are advised to avoid heavily wooded areas to keep their animals safe. Local veterinarian Dr. Whitney Jones said immediate vet care is key if a bite occurs (copperheads are among the venomous snakes to watch).  WBBJ-TV
