  • Brad Douglass celebrated 30 years at WBBJ in Jackson. He began his work in April 1994 as a weekend weather forecaster and now anchors several news programs — showing his long service to the local community.  WBBJ TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Centennial Bank reached an agreement on April 25 to buy The Bank of Jackson; the new bank will have about $1 billion in assets with 14 full-service locations and three electronic branches. Both boards approved the deal — it will need regulatory review and is set to close by year-end with headquarters staying in Trezevant.  WBBJ-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gasoline prices in Tennessee rose by 10.8 cents per gallon in the past week to average $2.76 today, according to GasBuddy's survey—this rate is 4.4 cents lower than last month's price and 47.6 cents lower than a year ago.  WYN 106.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jackson residents must complete a REAL ID application by May 7 if they plan to board domestic flights or enter federal facilities. Tennessee drivers should follow the state's process—applicants need to present documents verifying identity, Social Security number and address, while the method for applying may be online or in-person.  The Jackson Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • Billy Lloyd, who has stayed sober for over three years, shared his story at Aspell Recovery Center on April 24 during the opening celebration of the new campus house—highlighting the center's effort to support recovery.  The Jackson Post

  • NFL star Trey Smith and his sister Ashley Smith team with Girl Scouts Heart of the South — registration is open for Girls Get in the Game, an all-girls flag football camp and pep rally at University School of Jackson on Friday, June 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. that will let local girls in 4th through 12th grade learn flag football basics and hear inspiring talks on sports careers.  WYN 106.9
  • A Jackson area poll to name the top boys athlete of the week from April 21 through 26 is running—fans may vote once per hour until 5 p.m. on May 1—and the nominees include standout players from TSSAA spring sports.  The Jackson Sun
