EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jackson State Community College awarded scholarships to 19 students to study abroad in 10 countries — Japan, Greece, and Italy — this summer; each student will spend three weeks abroad earning college credit and then return as an international ambassador. WYN 106.9
- ➤ In partnership with the Community Foundation of West Tennessee, the Central West Tennessee Association of Realtors is launching a scholarship fund that will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Gibson, Haywood, Henderson, Lauderdale, and Madison counties—applications are accepted until May 31. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Jackson Fire Department achieved an ISO Class 2 Public Protection Classification which places it in the top 6% of U.S. fire departments—this rating reflects the department's strong teamwork with its city partners and may help lower insurance rates for local residents and businesses. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Jackson Fire Department maintained its ISO Class 2 rating—placing it in the top six percent nationwide for fire protection, water supply, and emergency response. The rating shows the department's strong service to the community. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Rookie Chandler McCrury became the first officer in Tennessee to complete Jackson Police Department's apprenticeship program and officially join the force — a historic milestone for the department — setting a new benchmark for state law enforcement. The Jackson Post
