UT Gardens will host a Spring Plant Sale on May 2 and May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the West Tennessee Ag Research and Education Center where visitors will be able to buy thousands of plants (from succulents to shrubs) as part of a partnership with Madison County Master Gardeners.

The TBI, McNairy County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Marshals conducted Operation Zero this week to check sex offender compliance, finding 36 of 42 offenders compliant—six were arrested for non-compliance.

Local filmmaker Jaron Lockridge will debut his film Betray: Thirst on streaming platforms this Saturday on Amazon Prime & Apple TV.

He filmed the movie in 10 days in Nashville & Memphis and it follows a lawyer who struggles after an affair with a client as he starts a new anthology series.

Mark Lanier will deliver the commencement address at Union University’s spring graduation on May 3 on the Great Lawn.

Graduate and adult studies ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. and the undergraduate ceremony will start at 6 p.m.

Tuesday at Middleton High School, Hardeman County Schools partnered with the University of Memphis Culinary Institute and TCAT Jackson to launch a dual credit culinary program for 10th to 12th graders that lets them earn up to 18 college credit hours while still in high school.

The program has full classes and a waiting list—an indication of rising interest in both college and career paths in cooking.

The Tennessee Real ID program will go into effect May 7th as new licenses with a star will allow residents to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings—citizens must show proof of citizenship, Social Security, and Tennessee residency, although a passport can be used for flights.

The Jackson Fire Department purchased the historic 1942 Truck 2 for one dollar from the John R.

Long Fire Museum in Oakfield and is transporting it back to Jackson—showing respect for its firefighting legacy. Officials said the truck will help the department share its rich history with the community.

Tennessee Homeless Solutions (THS) tried for its fourth time to secure a location for a men's homeless shelter in Jackson at the April City Council meeting.

The Council did not approve the plan (leaving THS to look for another option).
