- ➤ The Love Your Block Lawn Care Assistance Program kicked off today in Jackson and will offer free lawn mowing and landscaping—twice a month from May through August—to 45 homes serving seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income neighborhoods. Alpha Lawn Care Service leads the effort as part of the city's commitment to support local residents. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Visit Jackson TN has published its 2025 Mother’s Day Guide—listing local events and activities in West Tennessee to help residents plan their holiday celebrations. The guide provides key details on upcoming festivities without requiring further sources. WBBJ-TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Erin Rae and The Kernal are set to perform at Jackson's Carnegie Center on May 9 at the Basement Theatre where the artists will trade songs+creative insights about their process. The round stage setting will provide an intimate space for the exchange of music and stories. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Looking Up Arts, an experienced team from San Francisco, was selected by a committee of Public Art Commission members and site stakeholders to design a permanent, functional art installation at Anderson Park in downtown Jackson starting in June. The installation will transform an unused sidewalk space with sculptures that serve as tables and chairs (inspired by the city’s music scene and farming heritage) through a partnership between Our Jackson Home and the city. - ➤ After an eight-year pause, the Hub City BBQ Fest—formerly known as Blues Hog BBQ Fest—will return to downtown Jackson on October 3–4 to showcase top barbecue and live music while partnering with the Jacob Barker Music Festival to benefit Make-A-Wish Midsouth. Teams will compete for more than $14,000 in prizes and festival-goers can sample award-winning barbecue at 11:00 a.m. with winners announced at a 3:00 p.m. awards ceremony on the first day. WYN 106.9
- ➤ The Amp in downtown Jackson will host the 2025 JAX-MAC Festival on June 14 at 2 p.m.—the festival will showcase music, art and culture with performances by local and regional artists, food and drink vendors and interactive activities for all ages. WNBJ 39
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University School of Jackson is hosting its 3rd annual Field Day outside with games, free food, a water balloon toss, relay races and a bouncy castle as the school year nears its end. Teachers organized the event to let students enjoy time with friends+ celebrate a successful end to the year. WBBJ TV
- ➤ Nearly 700 students at Pope Elementary received new shoes Monday morning at an annual event supported by over 50 local volunteers — including members of the Old Hickory Rotary Club and Downtown Jackson Rotary Club. The event cost about $30,000 and planning for next year's service at Arlington Elementary will begin soon. WBBJ TV
