  • The City of Jackson is hosting a new Business Expo on May 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Carl Perkins Civic Center (downtown) to offer local vendors and residents networking opportunities. City departments will share details on upcoming projects and services in this free, public event.  WBBJ-TV
  • Chick-fil-A Vann Drive reopened today at 2200 Emporium Drive in Jackson, offering a larger parking lot and extra drive-thru lanes (plus an indoor playground) to ease traffic and improve service as the new team hires boost its 160-person staff.  WBBJ TV
  • Tennessee Aircraft Services celebrated 50 years at Jackson Regional Airport after moving into a larger building a month ago. The expanded shop now boosts maintenance work and draws pilots using the nearby airline service.  WBBJ-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that gas prices in Jackson have risen to $4.19 a gallon, up 20 cents from last week and 4 cents from yesterday. Oil prices fell below $100 today after news of a possible deal amid fluctuating oil markets.  WNBJ 39

  • The MD Anderson Planetarium at 299 Maple Street will host Distant Worlds: Alien Life? on Tuesday, May 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. where experts will explore whether life exists beyond Earth.  WNBJ 39
  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority held its annual scholarship presentation on May 5 at the Jackson-Madison Board of Education, awarding $1500 each to students from local high schools while school board representative Andre Darnell offered encouraging remarks.  WBBJ TV
