COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The meet-and-greet—set for June 15 at 7:30 p.m.—at Hub City Brewing in Jackson will let local fans meet Miss Volunteer America contestants from across the country and get program books signed.  WNBJ 39

CULTURE NEWS

  • VSS Dance invites Jackson families to attend its 38th annual free recital, Dancing in Candyland, which starts at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18th at the Carl Perkins Civic Center downtown—featuring jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, and musical theatre performances—and welcomes dancers from toddlers to advanced students.  WBBJ-TV
  • Anderson Park in downtown Jackson will get a new functional art installation in June; the permanent work, created by Looking Up Arts from San Francisco, includes sculptures that serve as tables & chairs and draw on agricultural & musical themes to transform an empty sidewalk space into a vibrant community area.  WBBJ-TV
  • Jackson will host the Miss Volunteer America 2026 competition at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, where the new titleholder will be crowned on June 21, 2026 with preliminary rounds on June 18, 19, and 20, 2026—tickets are required for all events.  WNBJ 39

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jackson area sports fans can vote for the girls athlete of the week covering May 5–11 until 5 p.m. on May 15 and see nominees for the boys athlete of the week who are competing in TSSAA events, with last week’s close vote win by Hardin County’s Miley Samples noted in the report.  The Jackson Sun
