CRIME NEWS

  • On May 12th at about 3:30 p.m., Jackson police responded to a ShotSpotter alert near Lennon Cove after shots were fired without any injuries reported+ the investigation remains ongoing.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ned will host the opening ceremonies for Miss Volunteer America on June 15 at 3 p.m., where 51 state titleholders will be introduced alongside their state flags and state princesses (the event is free and open to the public).  WNBJ 39

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Energy experts say that growing power demands are spurring an increase in grid battery manufacturing investments in Tennessee. Two facilities are now in development—supporting over 3,000 local jobs in the energy storage field.  WYN 106.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Madison County exceeded 100,000 residents when its office announced a count of 100,409 on May 9—this milestone comes after years of strategic planning and growth in healthcare and manufacturing. Mayor Massey said the increase shows smart planning and community efforts that will help services and housing keep pace with demand—ensuring the area remains an attractive place to live and work.  The Jackson Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • Olympian Bode Miller warned Jackson residents to secure their pools for summer by teaching kids to swim and considering automatic safety covers, noting that drowning is a top risk for young children — his 19-month-old daughter's tragic drowning in 2018 fuels his call for layered prevention.  WYN 106.9
  • A new study by Bader Scott Injury Lawyers shows that Tennessee averaged 2,917 drug overdose deaths per year from 2018 to 2022, ranking third in the nation for overdose death rates. The study found the state's rate of 42.2 deaths per 100,000 residents was 53% above the national average—highlighting the ongoing opioid crisis.  WYN 106.9
  • Doctors have advanced stroke treatment in Jackson by using a mechanical thrombectomy procedure—where a small catheter is inserted through the groin to remove a blood clot—that may reduce stroke damage and improve recovery. SPORTS NEWS

  • Jackson is set to host the State Games of Tennessee this June with competitions held over two weekends from June 5-8 and June 13-15 featuring sports such as pickleball and youth soccer.
