COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Serra of Jackson celebrated America's 250th anniversary Friday by raising a collector's Betsy Ross flag at its dealership. Sheriff deputies, police, veterans and servicemembers attended the event, and the special flag will remain until the Fourth of July. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ The Jackson Police Department held a memorial service at Englewood Baptist Church Friday morning during National Police Week, where 33 fallen officers (from JPD, Madison County Sheriff’s Department and others) were honored with a roll call, 21-gun salute, and taps. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Yesterday, First Citizens National Bank hosted a 2026 Community Cookout on Walker Road where customers and neighbors enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs. Alex Dowdy, the branch president, grilled food for around 120 people at the event. WNBJ 39
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Brandon Nathan, a 10th grade English teacher at Liberty Technology School in northeast Jackson, was named Educator of the Week today. He also runs Educational Opportunity Centers that help students with college preparation. WBBJ-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On May 14, Jackson North Side High School athletes played in the first TSSAA state championship for girls flag football at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro. More than 200 teams + 4,000 players have joined since 2021 as the sport is now in its second sanctioned season. WBBJ TV
- ➤ TSSAA Division I boys soccer sectionals begin today with one-game elimination matchups for high school teams. The published brackets list scheduled games — including Knoxville West at Science Hill at 11 a.m. in Class AAA — with additional contests set across classes during the day. The Jackson Sun
- ➤ State Games of Tennessee will return to Jackson on June 5, featuring sports such as pickleball, cycling, disc golf, e-games, table tennis, ultimate frisbee, Mahjong, and basketball.
