  • Sara Billingsley, a speech and yearbook teacher at Madison Academic High School, was named Educator of the Week. Her classes boost student confidence with public speaking skills that open doors to college opportunities.  WBBJ TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Bill Lee proclaimed May 22 as Gold Star Family Day in Tennessee to honor families who lost loved ones while serving (a tribute to their sacrifice), urging citizens to remember their contributions.  WBBJ TV
  • The Jackson Fire Department warned residents on Thursday about overloading outlet splitters, saying that using one for multiple appliances can cause overheating and fire hazards. Residents were advised to disconnect devices immediately if they observed any discoloration, melting, or burning smells.  WBBJ-TV
  • CVS filed a federal complaint challenging Tennessee’s Fair Rx Act that Governor Bill Lee signed, saying the law could force over 100 pharmacy locations to change or close starting in 2028 — the suit aims to stop the law before it disrupts local services.  WBBJ-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lifeline Blood Services & Joe Mahan Ford are launching their 8th Annual Car Giveaway from Memorial Day until Labor Day to encourage healthy blood donations. Donors 18 and older may win a 2024 Ford Maverick XLT at centers in Jackson, Dyersburg, and Paris.  WBBJ-TV

  • Milan Baseball won the Class 2A state championship yesterday — they clinched the title with a decisive win at their home ballpark in Milan.  WBBJ-TV
  • Michael Gaines becomes head coach for Liberty Tech's Lady Crusaders basketball team, taking charge immediately to build on a 15-9 season (he brings over 13 years of coaching experience).  WBBJ-TV
  • Crockett County Baseball won the Class 3A state championship on Friday, May 22 (the final game was closely contested).  WBBJ-TV
