- ➤ The Jackson-Madison County School System held its Teacher of the Year Banquet Friday at the Star Center to honor educators for their dedication. John Haley (West Bemis Middle School) was named Teacher of the Year and will represent the district in the regional selection, while Donna Currie (Jackson Central-Merry High School) and Laura Balcunas (Thelma Barker Elementary) were also recognized for their excellence. - ➤ Melonie Shelby, a 6th grade science teacher at Lexington Middle School, is honored as Educator of the Week by the Tennessee Education Lottery today—she has 16 years of teaching experience and advises new educators to get in the classroom to learn through hands-on experience. WYN 106.9
