CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On May 25, 2025, at around 3:57 a.m., the Jackson Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert on Old Hickory Blvd and found a 39-year-old man fatally shot in the 700 block before addressing a 911 call in the 800 block where another man suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital— investigators are still working on the case. - ➤ Today the Jackson-Madison County NAACP hosted its 62nd Freedom Fund Banquet at the Carl Perkins Civic Center starting at 4, where Bishop Marvin Frank Thomas, Sr.—the 62nd Bishop of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church—gave the keynote address and awards honored local community leaders. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday, Mayor Scott Conger used social media to propose raising the property tax rate from $1.6114 to $1.85 and increasing the city vehicle sticker fee to $50 to fund future improvements in streets, sidewalks, and public safety equipment. The proposal is expected to add about $10 to $12 per month for the average household—while keeping Jackson’s property tax rate the lowest in 40 years. WBBJ-TV
