COMMUNITY NEWS

  • McNairy County kids under 18 can pick up free summer meal boxes, each with seven breakfasts and seven lunches, from MLJ Express until early August. Pickups are held at several sites, including Selmer Townhouse Apartments (408 Florence Avenue) and designated school locations on Monday, Tuesday, and today due to a holiday adjustment.  WBBJ TV
  • Tennessee’s Bobby Wilson Free Fishing Day will occur on Saturday, June 6 and allow state residents and visitors to fish for free in public waters; youth ages 15 or younger will enjoy a free week until June 12 (named for retired TWRA executive Bobby Wilson).  WBBJ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • USA Today nominated Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store in Jackson as one of the nation’s 10 Best Buffet Restaurants in America. You can vote for the restaurant until June 15 as it celebrates 60 years in business.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Jackson-Madison County Library announced its 2026 Summer Reading Program with a dinosaur and archaeology theme for all ages, offering events from movie screenings and computer classes to park ranger presentations held at the downtown library and local state parks from June to July.  WBBJ-TV
  • Representatives from the City, parks and recreation, the Leadership Jackson’s Tigers team, and the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation gathered at Centennial Park (May 26) to celebrate the city's first Storybook Trail.   • Lifeline Blood Services paired with Joe Mahan Ford to launch its 8th Annual Car Giveaway with a 2024 Ford Maverick XLT. Running until Labor Day, donors aged 18+ can donate at Jackson, Dyersburg, or Paris Lifeline centers on Sterling Farms Drive, HWY 51 Bypass, or Tyson Ave.  WBBJ TV
