COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The West Tennessee Pokémon Club will meet on June 28 at the Jackson-Madison County Library from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and additional meetings are scheduled for July 26, August 30, and September 27 where members can trade cards and explore Pokémon books.  WNBJ 39
  • A Jackson woman is asking for help finding her missing mother, Mayola Webb (63, 130 lbs, 5'6"), who was last seen at Daybreak Suites on April 29 while driving a gray Ford sedan with expired tags; she may be in the Dickson area and is reportedly with a man named Nellie (about 5'10, 165 lbs) so anyone with information should call 731-425-8400 or 731-444-4254.  WYN 106.9

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Greyhound bus from Memphis to Nashville crashed on Highway 70 in Madison County on May 26 at about 6:48 p.m., injuring 39 people with 27 taken by ambulance and 30 hospitalized as responders and authorities investigated the cause.  The Jackson Sun

CRIME NEWS

  • The mass shooting at Kate Campbell Robertson Memorial Park over the weekend left seven hospitalized — with six released and one still in critical but stable condition — while the Jackson Police Department asks anyone with information to call tip lines.  WNBJ 39
  • The Office of District Attorney General Frederick H. Agee released the May fugitive report for the 28th Judicial District — listing individuals wanted for arrest.  WYN 106.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Jackson-Madison County School System held a personnel meeting Tuesday afternoon to look for new team members. Leaders said they are hiring licensed educators and support staff like bus drivers and cafeteria workers.  WBBJ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jackson fans can vote once per hour until 5 p.m. on May 30 for the area’s boys athlete of the week based on performances from May 19 to 24. Nominees include top athletes in baseball, tennis, soccer and track from local schools—voters now decide who had the best week.  The Jackson Sun
  • Fans in Jackson can vote for the girls' athlete of the week covering May 19–24, with the poll allowing one vote per hour until it closes at 5 p.m. on May 30. Nominees include players from softball and track who helped lead their teams to key victories + set the stage for state-level success.  The Jackson Sun
  • Jackson State Community College announced it will launch its first volleyball and cross-country teams this fall. The volleyball team begins its season August 23 away while the cross-country team starts with home time trials the same day—both teams plan to compete in several regional meets and tournaments.  WYN 106.9
