- ➤ Jackson-Madison County Library’s revamped MakerSpace reopened on May 28 in downtown Jackson (at 433 East Lafayette Street) with new hours (Tuesdays 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.). Patrons can email [email protected] to make an appointment for using the space. WNBJ 39
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two days ago on May 27, a Greyhound bus traveling east from Memphis to Nashville collided with another vehicle on Highway 70, involving 39 people, injuring 27 and killing 2—authorities remain investigating the cause and clearing debris. WNBJ 39
- ➤ The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated a fatal crash on May 26 on U.S. Highway 70 in Madison County that involved a Greyhound bus and a passenger vehicle—both victims were taken to the Medical Examiner's Office while 33 of the 39 bus occupants received medical evaluation. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ A utility pole near North Royal Street and Deaderick Street left nearly 500 Jackson customers without power yesterday, and JEA crews worked to repair it+witnesses reported that a wreck may have caused the outage. WNBJ 39

- ➤ Jackson Police Chief Thom Corley discussed recent gun violence incidents & the police department’s ongoing efforts to address rising crime in the city. WYN 106.9
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Hub City Theater Company is presenting The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance at the Carnegie Museum Basement starting May 30 at 7:30 p.m. and the play will run through June 1 (tickets start at $20). WNBJ 39
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TDOT announced ongoing road repairs and lane closures across West Tennessee from May 28 to June 4—motorists in areas like Madison, Shelby, and other counties should expect intermittent closures, reduced speed limits, and detours on routes such as I-40, SR-3, and I-240. WYN 106.9
- ➤ Madison County road work on I-40 reduced the speed limit to 60 mph from Lower Brownsville Road to the South Fork Forked Deer River starting Wednesday — overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving between mile markers 74 and 78 will continue through June 11. Improvement work at Exit 68 near State Route 138 remains ongoing — at least one lane stays open in each direction. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Mayor Scott Conger posted on Facebook today his proposal to raise property tax rates in Jackson from $1.61 to $1.85 per $100 and double the fee for city vehicle stickers from $25 to $50, which could add $10 to $12 a month for most households. He said the extra revenue will go toward infrastructure improvements — the city council will review the proposal next Tuesday. WNBJ 39
