BUSINESS NEWS

  • MAT Industries, a global manufacturer of air compressors and brake tanks, announced today that it will expand in Jackson by investing at least $9 million+ creating 30 new jobs and increasing its local workforce to nearly 260 people. The expansion will add multiple production lines and strengthen the company’s presence in West Tennessee.  WYN 106.9
  • TGI Fridays on Vann Drive in Jackson was demolished and is now rubble—Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers will replace it once the site is cleared. There is no word yet on when construction will begin.  WNBJ 39

CRIME NEWS

  • Between 12 a.m. on June 2 and 8 a.m. on June 3, many people were booked into or released from Madison County Jail on charges — such as unlawful exposure and probation violations — but booking does not prove guilt.  WBBJ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jackson's Rockabillys Stadium—located at 4 Fun Place—will host The Beach Boys with special guests LOCASH on Thursday, September 25. Tickets will be available starting at 10:00 a.m. on June 6 with prices ranging from $39.99 to $89.99 and season ticket holders receiving early access.  WBBJ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jackson City Council passed its budget without raising taxes during a 113-minute meeting on Tuesday morning. Council members spent 55 minutes on one agenda item and 35 minutes listening to public input—details that drove the decision.  The Jackson Post
  • Today, Tennessee launched a free hangtag program to remind parents to check the backseat when cars heat up in the summer. Hangtags are available at local health departments (Tennessee Highway Patrol offices, Driver Centers, and AAA locations) to help prevent children from being left in dangerously hot vehicles.  WNBJ 39
