- ➤ The City of Jackson’s Health and Sanitation Department will host its 10th Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, June 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Public Works Yard at 164 Conalco Drive, where residents can drop off bulky items like tires, mattresses, and furniture—free paper shredding will be provided and the first 20 attendees will receive a large tarp. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Six students from the Gibson Electric service area were selected for the Washington Youth Tour after writing a 900-word story for a creative writing competition — the trip from June 13–20 will take them to sites like Monticello, the Smithsonian museums and the International Spy Museum. WBBJ-TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Jackson Recycling Center on 74-B Conalco Drive has added a new open-top scrap metal container—thanks to a state grant that lets residents dispose of scrap metal safely. WNBJ 39
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday morning, the Tennessee Housing Development Agency and Jackson Housing Authority broke ground on BlueCreek Apartments and The Cottages of BlueCreek, a project that will add 112 affordable housing units in east Jackson + include a community room, computer room, laundry facilities and a playground. The project is funded with up to $23 million in tax credits and aims to help ease the state’s housing shortage. WYN 106.9

- ➤ Warm weather in Jackson has increased tick activity, and experts warn that ticks can carry diseases like Lyme, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and ehrlichiosis.
